TURKISH AVIATION ACADEMY ATTENDED THE WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ENGLISH ASSOCIATION IN CROATIA5/8/2017



Turkish Aviation Academy representatives went to Dubrovnik, Croatia for the ICAEA Workshop on "ICAO LPRs - Language Proficiency Requirements" held on 24-25 April 2017. The conference which was organized in cooperation with the Croatian Civil Aviation Authority ‘Croatia Control’, was attended by Aviation English experts from all over the world, who lead the developments in the industry.

At the workshop, Turkish Aviation Academy was represented by Business Analyst Tülin YILMAZ and Language Services Supervisor Burcu ERATEŞ from Language Trainings and Services Management. At the two-day event, the effectiveness of LPR exams used for the past ten years and the most recent developments within this scope were discussed. The workshop, during which different people shared their opinions on LPR exams, was attended by civil aviation authorities of different countries, industry and language experts, civil aviation English instructors from universities, representatives of training institutions, ICAEA President Michael Kay and Turkish Airlines.

The design and improvement of the LPR exams, trainings in English, standards, proficiencies and research were some of the issues on the workshop agenda. In terms of testing, it was highlighted that defining a framework for the exam and clarifying the standards will lead to ensuring validity and reliability of these exams and increase the acceptance of the exams among different countries. Along this line, all countries at the workshop mutually agreed that there is a need for a single recognized ICAO exam or for a specific exam template recommended by ICAO.

ICAEA, which organized 30 forums and workshops around the world since its foundation, has, with this workshop, provided an opportunity for improving training and testing standards in aviation English by bringing together speakers and representatives from all over the world.
