Turkish Aviation Academy has hosted Dr. John WENSVEEN at the TAALKS (Turkish Aviation Academy Leading Knowledge Series) Program, which took place in Turkish Airlines Headquarters VIP Hall on 15 March 2018.

The program starting with the opening speech of Senior Vice President, Training, Prof. Kemal YÜKSEK attracted great interest from the Turkish Airlines personnel with its subject, "What should we focus on in order to prepare our airline for "tomorrows" and against the emerging talent gap in the airlines?”

Mr. WENSVEEN, who expressed his gratitude to the Turkish Airlines family for their hospitality, started his speech mentioning his aviation passion and career. Our guest, who stated that major crises are actually the greatest opportunity in aviation, and explained it with a special term called "crisitunity", said that these crises are a very important opportunity to realize the talent gap in aviation. He also noted that aviation industry has found development opportunities by eliminating talent gaps. Dr. WENSVEEN said, "When airlines cut their education budgets, there arises a talent gap. This reminds airline companies that their employees are the most valuable assets they have. Investing in the future of its employees is the most important investment that an airline company would ever make!” and he talked about the technologies and artificial intelligence applications developing in this industry for aviation enthusiasts. Besides, Dr. WENSVEEN stated that the environmental regulations cause many difficulties in transportation and in the development of transportation. However, he said that it is possible to make progress without harming the environment by means of developing technology and by supporting those technologies.

Dr. WENSVEEN completed his speech by answering the participants' questions. The program has ended with the gift presentation by Senior Vice President, Training, Prof. Kemal YÜKSEK and a photo shoot.

Mr. WENSVEEN is the Vice Rector at Miami Dade College where he leads the Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development of Academic Schools. He is in charge of establishing institutional relations with local, regional, national and international institutions and organizations, leaders of foreign governments, businesses and non-governmental organizations.

Dr. John WENSVEEN is also an instructor at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In addition, he is the author of "Air Transportation: A Management Perspective" and "Wheels Up: Airline Business Plan Development", the books which are on the aviation industry's bestseller list. Mr. WENSVEEN, who completed his master's and doctorate in International Air Transport and Business Management at Cardiff University, continued his academic studies on Geography and Transportation Area Use Planning at Victoria University in Canada. Currently, he continues his studies on the master development certificate at the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. WENSVEEN gives the lecture of "Network, Fleet and Schedule Planning" in the Air Transport Management Master's Program, which is carried out by Turkish Airlines in cooperation with Ibn Haldun University under the sponsorship of Airbus.
